George Nelson
How often do you think that the inventor of the beautiful piece of furniture you could only see when you walked down the street? Are they simply People who cut a few pieces of wood, got some sheets of metal and they coexist in a rather nice way?
Some people, where furniture was more than just the story made. What is more, were some of them architects not only their sofas and tables, but also of American modernism. He perpetuated a philosophy that human Enhanced creativity and was the modernist, which embodies this creativity in his designs furniture and looks in a way that only he can visualize.
He was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He showed all the signs of brilliance, as he grew up. College at Yale, studied fine art, working with pencil point and the Rome Prize for Architecture just another showcase for him. After winning this, as a reward he got in a palace in Rome, studying architecture in residence The amazing city of boundless beauty and meet some of the greatest minds of modernist art as Gio Ponti, Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier. He interviewed all for Pencil Points. Its writings talked about a lot of concepts. He later co-wrote a book entitled "Tomorrow's House" by Henry Wright (The man who made the bungalow in Chicago). In his book he explains the revolutionary ideas of the family room and the wall unit. This interesting observation to Herman Miller, the Nelson by his brother Howard Miller was introduced.
The rest is history. Mueller was in the futuristic visions of Nelson's interest in furniture and gave him a chance, although he never actually been designed. And George Nelson, did not disappoint as George Nelson. Together with other notable designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Irving Harper, Robert Schultz and David Knorr, he came with some of the most sought-after pieces of furniture at the moment.
In 1955 he started his own Company-George Nelson Associates. The famous works of art are now the Nelson Coconut Chair, the Marshmallow Sofa, Nelson Ball Clock and the Platform bank. Some of the top class People who worked with him were Irving Harper, John Pile and later Ettore Scotsass. What can happen to a company with this amount of genius can only guess. There were negative Criticism as well from his work when he was a committed modernist. He has often not the fault of his colleagues stand by their principles of thought and design preferences and go through what would benefit commercially.
What is Nelson is best known for furniture, but what made him an industry-assistant is his desire to improve the world through his designs. An urge the rules of nature, while still preserving was created modern in it. Therefore, it is his designs are the Marshmallow sofa or sunflower oil-Clock are not just works of art. They are miracles born of the human spirit. In what we saw a lifeless glass, metal, Nelson saw the opportunity to him alive.
